A letter from Dezire Gifford Priaulx to Daisy Monroe Kent
 |
The letter shown here was
written in 1932 from an aunt to her niece. At the time
this letter was written Dezire Gifford Priaulx had
married in 1881, moved to Iowa, raised six children and
buried her husband Joe just about a month earlier.She was
75 years old and would live about 9 more years. Daisy Monroe Kent was born 1884 and married 1902 and raised five children. She would live her entire life in Madison. She was 47 years old and would live about 7 more years. Dezire was telling Daisy the names of her relatives, mentioned her husband Joe's recent death and also commented on the often discussed remarriage of Desire Burdick after Sylvanus Gifford deserted her and their child. Jan. 26, 1932 My Fathers Mother Mothers name Dezire Burdick and her mothers name was Hill She married Sylvanus Gifford in New York and he Left her before Pa was born, then she Married Henry Pate and moved to North Madison Ohio Grandma Burdick my Grate grandma name was Hill |
