The Ancestors of George John Kent

I hope my Grandpa Kent and my father are smiling down on us. We have found and recorded Kent generations that I feel sure they were not fully aware of. I know of no one else that has documented our Kent lineage to the point we are at.

Much of our original Kent documentation came from Lake and Ashtabula County, but our search found a distant cousin, Nancy Kent Thoben in California, who has helped us find and document Jacob and Simeon, my 4th and 5th great-grandfathers. Her well documented information was a great help. Nancy is searching the same Kent (Kindt) line that my son and I are, so now we have a team of genealogists working together.

We have found that in the early-mid 1700's the Kent name in our family records was recorded as Kindt or Kind and less frequently, Kint or Kyndt. The names Kindt or Kind were common in the Flanders area of what is now Belgium, and to this day they are used. I feel that we are very likely of Dutch ancestry on the Kent side. This is further confirmed by many Kent, Kindt family marriages to Spiers, Egberts and other Dutch families which are  recorded in the Dutch Reformed Church.

The last in the Kent-Kindt  line we have recorded is Elyas (Elijas) Kindt (Kint) who had children in New Jersey, his birth date and location are as yet unconfirmed. Based on his wife's birth, his estimated birth date is 1688 or earlier. His wife Margrieth Heyns is recorded with a Christening: 25 Dec 1688, Kingston, Ulster, New York.
Elyas may be or not , the Kent immigrant. Our ongoing mission is to document him and we are all working on that.

If you want English, the Kent line has that also, as Lorana Burdick the wife of John Kent, my 3rd great-grandfather is documented back to England in 1507. Other English in my ancestry are Haynes, Hussey and Downing.  The Edwards family contributes Welch blood to us.

To summarize, we are a "Heinz 57" variety as most Americans are. Be happy with that.
